I've got a need to record audio separately from video and then sync them back up when I edit the video. I'm recording the event on three consumer DV cameras (i.e., no external sync capability) and taking separate feeds from the direct outs of the house mixer into my own Mackie 1642, mixing it on the fly (alas, no multitrack recorder), and recording the mixed audio onto a TASCAM DAT deck. The video capture is done through firewire and the audio capture is done through the DAT's digital output.

True Performance Initiative

When Intel launched its "Intel Inside" initiative in 1994, there were more than two CPU manufacturers vying for your CPU dollars. The Macintosh was cruising along at 25MHz running on Motorola's 68000 series CPUs, and PC users were running DOS or Windows 3.x.

Strong as an Oxide

Analog tape is starting to be seen the way audio cassettes were when CDs emerged, and a recent AVVMMP online survey proves it. We asked visitors at our Web site to describe their use of analog tape formats in the past three years. We received almost 700 responses. Of those, 48.2 percent said that their use decreased greatly, and 25.6 described their decrease as slight. Only 17 percent said that their use remained the same. Slightly less than 6 percent saw a slight increase, and only 3 percent saw their use of analog tape grow considerably.
