![]() Armed with a Laptop and New Tools In today's multichannel world, sound designers and recordists have a larger palette to work with. However, capturing high-resolution surround sound on the go has previously involved multiple microphones and fairly ample hardware. With the advent of powerful laptop computers, portable drives, multichannel microphones and the flexibility of FireWire, there are exciting new possibilities for those “in the field.” Recently, the need came up for me to record several multichannel “events,” in locations with absolutely no AC power. After doing a bit of research, I put together a package that could quickly and efficiently cover my needs, with a minimum of gear, while recording at 24-bit/96kHz resolution. ![]() Mastering suite represents the final step in facility's development Engine Room Audio, a full-service audio production facility located on the border of NY's colorful Soho and Chinatown districts, has introduced a new state-of-the-art mastering lab. Animated ChubbChubbs developed by Sony Pictures Imageworks Chance Thomas, the award-winning composer most widely known for his innovative work in interactive games, has created the music for The ChubbChubbs, which is currently playing at 1,500 theaters nationwide in front of this summer’s blockbuster movie, Men In Black 2. |
