Version 3 of Universal Audio's UAD-1 works in multi-card configuration and has Direct X support
The UAD-1 is a PCI card for Mac and PC that offers an impressive rack of high-quality digital audio effects and processing plug-ins. Engineered by Universal Audio and distributed by Mackie Designs, the UAD-1 handles all of its processing with a powerful on-card chip that permits multiple instances of reverbs, EQs, compressors, limiters and more. This leaves your computer's CPU free to handle recording and playback without being hindered by the demands of effects processing.
Feature-laden microphone preamplifier/mix node
California-based Speck Electronics, founded in 1973 by Vince Poulos, makers of the highly successful XTRAMIX line mixer and Model ASC equalizer, have recently released the new MicPre 5.0 Microphone Preamplifier/Mix Node. The MicPre 5.0 is an original design and packs a lot of features into a compact half-rack space and can be rackmounted and combined with the Model ASC 4-band equalizer for a powerful and versatile channel strip.

Yamaha’s O2R96 Digital Mixing Console
Seven years after the original 02R digital mixer hit the market, Yamaha brings us the 02R96, a vastly revised incarnation of its earlier, wildly popular board. Outside of its name, size, and the distinctive blue LCD screen jutting from the face of the mixer, the two have very little in common. The 02R96 stomps on its legendary elder sibling in every way. It’s much more powerful, boasting more features, more functionality and significantly better sound. The 02R96 has grown to a 56-channel, 24-bit/96kHz, fully-automated all-digital mixer. Yamaha has included surround capability, motorized touch-sensitive faders and a wealth of inputs and outputs. The 02R96 has four effects processors capable of a host of standard effects plus effects written for 5.1 surround.
CBS HD broadcast seen in major markets with 5.1 surround audio
The CBS telecast of the 45th Annual GRAMMY Awards from Madison Square Garden marked a major step forward in the sound and look of television: the broadcast was the first-ever network broadcast prime-time awards program to be shown in HDTV and heard in 5.1 surround audio.
